Grant Writing: Workshop
Since the COVID-19 crises, various Government bodies and private entities announced a range of grant opportunities to assist impacted artists and creative businesses. Navigating the various opportunities available and approaching a grant application can be a daunting task. In order to provide support to the music industry, the VMDO presented an online workshop with Auspicious Arts Project.
This workshop provided an overview of some of the grants and opportunities that were currently available to assist the Victorian music industry, including: Australia Council for the Arts, Creative Victoria, local councils around Victoria, PPCA - Performers' Trust Foundation. We will also spend some time discussing how to approach an application, and some useful strategies to help with your grant writing. Presenter: Selene Bateman, Client Manager at Auspicious Arts Project.
Resilience and Dealing with Change Workshop
The COVID-19 crises has had a significant impact on our jobs, social lives and livelihoods. Now more than ever, it’s important to learn practical techniques for dealing with stress and change that you can apply to your work and personal lives. This half day intensive workshop was designed for people in the music industry wanting to improve their ability to deal with pressure and change in their environment. Participants learned practical skills and techniques to build strength and bounce back when they need it most. Simon Wilton, coach and facilitator with 20 years’ experience, guided them through proven strategies designed to help build resilience and a positive attitude. Participants learned techniques for how to best deal with pressure and change, as well as practical skills to build strength and flexibility.
This workshop was delivered by ICML online training. ICML offers a fresh approach to virtual workshop training. Their sessions are dynamic and engaging and based on best practice adult learning techniques.

Managing Conflict Workshop
There are many situations in the music industry where challenging conversations and conflict can arise. Emotions can run high under pressure.
In this interactive and thought-provoking workshop, participants learned to manage these interactions, deal with emotions and with difficult, emotional and sometimes unreasonable people and situations.
The Managing Conflict workshop was selected after receiving feedback from previous EIR participants, about experts they would like to learn from in the future. The workshop was initially offered on Friday 20th March and due to industry demand, a second session was offered on Tuesday 5th May, 2020.

The workshop was also a response to key findings in the report Career Paths: The Victorian Music Business Career Life Cycle. By providing industry professionals with opportunities to improve their interpersonal skills and address conflicts, it is likely they will be better equipped to shape healthier work environments on and offline.
Objectives:
In this conflict management program, participants learned how to:
understand what causes people's difficult behaviours
keep their cool under pressure
use listening skills to get the information needed to help the people you work with
maintain a positive state of mind and not take work related conflict home
diffuse aggressive behaviours
confidently and assertively manage difficult situations
negotiate satisfactory outcomes
