Melanie Pose, Music Manager, Departing VMDO

Published 5 July, 2022

As Melanie Pose’s time at VMDO comes to an end this week, we’d like to reflect on the incredible journey it’s been, and all of the achievements Mel brought to life.

Mel originally joined the team in 2020 to deliver the pre-operations plan for Music Market. Whilst her initial contract was for 3 months; Mel was asked to stay on with the organisation supporting Music Victoria’s Board and executives through the transition phase between CEOs. Once the executive team was in place in early 2021, Mel remained to deliver Music Market and support some key VMDO programs.

As well as contributing significantly to the shape and success of the VMDO, Mel co-designed and led some incredibly impactful programs. A notable project being Fair Play, delivered in partnership with Diversity Arts Australia. Fair Play supported some of the most renowned Victorian commercial music businesses to interrogate structures and practices in order to genuinely improve the accessibility, respect and inclusion of marginalised communities in the broader music industry.

In late 2021, Mel drove the launch of Music Market, establishing consultation processes with community, leading brand, marketing and communications plans and driving venue operations.

”What an honour it has been to contribute to the strategic vision and vital programs of the VMDO. To have supported some of our most respected music industry professionals and most renowned industry businesses through the Fair Play program was indeed a personal highlight for me.

Similarly, it’s been an absolute privilege to work alongside a team of passionate collaborators in realising the vision of Music Market.
I want to give a huge thank you to the teams past and present who have supported this placemaking project. From our co-work residents to our venue hirers and all those who have consulted and provided feedback and guidance, we could not have done this without you. I can’t wait to see how the space continues to support and nurture our vibrant and resilient industry.
An extra special thanks to my colleagues at Creative Victoria, Music Victoria, VMDO, Music Market and Collingwood Yards, you’ve made it a very special time indeed.” – Melanie Pose

“Having previously worked with Mel at the Melbourne International Jazz Festival, it was such a pleasure to see a familiar face when I joined Music Victoria. Mel has been such a huge support to the organisation during the most challenging times the industry has seen, while also being able to realise such significant Victorian Government initiatives as VMDO and Music Market. There is not much that Mel can’t do – and as a result I can’t wait to see what she does next!” – Simone Schinkel, CEO Music Victoria

We wish Mel all the best in the future.
