New Experts in Residence Round - Strategic Planning

As part of the VMDO Experts In Residence program, Craig Spann will be offering Victorian businesses strategic planning advice.

Craig Spann has worked in and around the music sector for more than two decades and, as is the nature of the beast, has done just about everything. A journalist and music writer for many years, he moved into the world of corporate communications, Government relations and music publicity before focussing on working with major industry organisations including Q Music and the Australian Music Industry Network (AMIN). After a stint driving music policy and business development with Virgin Australia, Craig shifted focus to continue developing his label and music services company SUGARRUSH Music alongside partner Deb Suckling.

While SUGARRUSH works with a range of artists and delivers unique community music projects (Big Sky Girls) Craig also works extensively with business, events and arts organisations alongside local, State and Territory governments to develop and deliver strategic, business and operational plans that inform growth and encourage new and innovative ways of operation. He also continues to remain close to the international touring sector through his role as Strategic Partnership Manager with global travel and events company TAG.

2020 has delivered unprecedented challenges to the music industry with the COVID-19 crisis expected to see long term impacts on the size of the sector, alongside the way we do business. The current period of ‘shutdown’ though does provide those working within the industry the opportunity to reflect on existing business models and develop new approaches to conducting their business in a dramatically changed environment.

For this Experts in Residence round, Craig will work with 10 Victorian music business through 1 x group and 2 x 1-on-1 sessions to develop a new strategic plan for their businesses. Participants will be guided through a process that involves an assessment of the current climate and how it impacts their business, and using that to lay out a clear roadmap for business growth with an emphasis on innovation and challenging the ‘business as usual’ models. The result will be a clear set of principles and aims that can be used to further develop detailed business and operational plans.

Applications for Round 13 (Strategic Planning with Craig Spann) are now open. Please note participant spots are limited to 10 places.

Successful applicants must be available for sessions as follows:
