VMDO & RMIT Career Paths Report Launch

Published 13 February, 2020

The Victorian Music Development Office and RMIT University will present an afternoon discussion around what skills and strategies people need to sustain a music business career.

Industry and education experts will examine key findings from the forthcoming report Career Paths: The Victorian Music Business Career Life Cycle. The study was conducted by interviewing 27 music business professionals with 10+ years of experience. The interviews revealed common themes about how music businesspeople entered the industry, what sustained their careers and what they saw as the main industry roadblocks. The study also highlights ongoing opportunities to support and develop music business careers.

While the report is music industry focussed, much of the research is applicable to other creative industries. The VMDO are responding to the report with industry professional development programs including: CLOCK Your Skills and Experts in Residence.

You’re invited to preview the report and hear the panel, moderated by Tom Larkin (VVV MGMT, BIGSOUND).

Panellists:

• Bonnie Dalton (VMDO)

• Paulette Long OBE (UK Music Publisher, Artist Manager and Board Director)

• Denise Stanley (CLOCK Your Skills)

• Dr. Catherine Strong (RMIT University)
